Eligibility
- Full-length novels on the theme of diaspora written by living authors in Korean or English
- Out-of-print books are excluded, and works must have an ISBN.
Awards
- Prize awarded to one (1) work
- Plaque and prize money (50 million KRW for the author, 10 million KRW for the translator)
   Note: Prize may not be awarded in the event that no winner is selected.
Translator’s Prize (Translation Support Payment)
Global literature is currently led by works produced in European and other western languages. In line with Bucheon Diaspora Literary Award mission of promoting Korean culture around the world and introducing literary works written in different languages to Korea, prize money shall be awarded to translators (or publishers) only in the following circumstances.
  • In the event that the winner is a Korean work
    • - The prize is awarded to the translator if a published English version already exists.
    • - In the event that no English translation exists, the translator’s prize shall be awarded as a translation support payment to the first publisher to publish a translated version of the winning work in English over a period of three (3) years beginning from the following year.
  • In the event that the winner is a work published in a language other than Korean
    • - The prize is awarded to the translator if a published Korean version already exists.
    • - In the event that no Korean translation exists, the translator’s prize shall be awarded as a translation support payment to the first publisher to publish a translated version of the winning work in Korean over a period of three (3) years beginning from the following year.
  • The judging committee reserves the right to withhold payment of the translator’s prize (translation support payment) if approval is denied.
  • In the event that there are multiple translators because two (2) or more published translations exist, the judging committee shall determine which translator wins the prize.
  • The translation support payment shall be awarded upon the publication of the translated book.
